Windows Vista Beta 1 vs. Mac OS X “Tiger” (Part 1)
这个居然要proxy才能访问。。。所以花点篇幅简要总结下文中的结论(还只是Part 1，后面还有)。这个作者有个有趣的观点，认为Tiger从2003年PDC上MS第一次宣布的Longhorn特性中找到了不少有价值的feature，并且把他做到了Mac OS中，从而形成了针对Vista的一定的优势，”For Apple, time to market is a competitive advantage and no one should begrudge them that.” 下面是一些比较。

——Vista beta 1中携带的Aero UI中包含了众多OS X Aqua已经在四年前实现的东西，例如半透明、高分辨率icon、视觉和功能性的动画特效等，但是由于Aqua已经经历了4个主要的rev的升级优化，很多问题早已修正的近乎完美，而Vista显然还在体验这种growing pain，典型的例子是半透明效果经常会现实的很难看。
——Vista实现了256*256分辨率的icon，比Tiger的128*128更大，但是现在还不知道最后的发布版是不是真的会实现分辨率无关的矢量icon，这将改善很多令人不快的icon显示体验(做过Windows Desktop App编程的人就知道我说的是什么意思)。

Vista beta 1提供了和Tiger中SpotLight几乎一样的桌面搜索能力，在众多的上下文中提供方便的search功能，包括对结果进行条件分组、过滤、保存等，总的来说只有一个区别——Vista的搜索不是实时进行的，而是和现在的一样，需要按下Enter键才会开始，据该文作者说这是by design的，但是我对此持保留意见，你只要试试新的Google Desktop Search 2 beta就知道实时开始搜索多么的酷，而且并不会给人annoying的感觉，虽然开始敲击的几个字有时确实不能给出有意义的结果。

也就是对你系统中数据的智能化分类管理，Vista通过一组实时更新的virtual folder列出系统中所有的文档、图片、音频等等，并允许对它们进行定制(分组、过滤等)，这个显然是对Windows 95以来那个笨拙的My Document的有益的改良。Vista还对metadata提供更加深入的支持，允许方便的修改各种文件的metadata，并基于metadata进行检索。作者认为在这个领域Vista领跑了，并希望在OS的下一个版本看到Mac的回应。
“Even in this early Beta 1 release, Windows Vista far outstrips the data file visualization and organizational features in Mac OS X Tiger. It will be interesting to see what Apple comes up with for Leopard, the next OS X release.”

今天一早终于回到了家，“东方芝加哥”还真是名不虚传，在火车站目睹大量犯罪嫌疑人。。。好不容易逃上一辆taxi落荒而去。
接下来要花几天的时间补上欠的工作、整理照片、写游记和休息，周六还有场球赛 :S
