Knoppix 4.0 DVD – Like a Kid in a Candy Store 从4.0开始，Knoppix被分为“maxi”的DVD版和“mini”的CD版，这个版本也许将是有史以来最好玩的Linux distro。
iTunes 4.9 With Podcasting Support 还没有正式发行(虽然已经可以download)，新功能(传说中的Podcasting，又一个基于RSS的应用)似乎也跟我没啥关系。。。不过iTune升级还是要支持DI，4.8就比4.7运行流畅些。
Xorg and Desktop Eyecandy Xorg的风格和XFree86很是不一样。是个比较aggressive，也跟其他开源社区关系比较密切的team——原先XFree86的team在这方面则是饱受争议。

Opera’s CEO to Swim From Norway to the USA 一个老套但有效的marketing圈套。。。
An overly excited Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software, today proclaimed at an internal company meeting that if the download numbers of the new Opera 8 Web browser reach 1 million within the first four days of the launch, he will swim from Norway to the USA with only one stop-over for a cup of hot chocolate at his mother’s house in his home country, Iceland. The new browser was released Tuesday and was downloaded 600.000 times in the first 48 hours since release. The challenge will end on Saturday at 0900 a.m. CET, so if you want to try out some new software and make the CEO stick to his big words, download it at Opera’s webpage(direct link).

IBM Releases Java Processor for Mainframes 这是又一个证明Sun是白痴的实例，早在5年以前我就在它的Java开发者论坛发过言，建议Sun开发自己的Java芯片，用于Sparc主机——事实上不只我建议，以为后来Sun真的有了这个计划，但是不知道为啥后来就没声音了。。。现在IBM来了，很快IBM就会有与WAS打包的服务器销售了，从而继续在Sun发明的Java上面开拓新的价值——Sun从来没有享受过的价值。

Embedding JUnit Tests JUnit也可算作一个简单但是极具内涵和应用空间的例子——因为它太有用了，被用的多了自然不断升华。这又是一个利用comment来自动生成测试代码的技术，但是这次未必是好的技术（虽然它来自Bruce Eckel），我认为它牺牲了代码的可读性而且功能较弱，未必值得。这则文摘中的comment更值得一看。

Fedora Core 2 Test 2
昨天Fedora发布了备受关注的FC2 Test 2，这个版本终于完全实现了FC2的所有两个”stop-ship”特性：2.6 Linux Kernel和SELinux。另外也集成了最新的GNOME 2.5, and KDE 3.2.1桌面，另外一个重要的变化是——XFree86消失了，取而代之的是xorg-x11（这个已经是这个故事的第三次报道了，之前的故事在这里）。

关于XFree86事件的后续报道
来自Slashdot的报道，Fedora正在准备用XOrg的X11实现来替换原先XFree86的实现，作为对XFree86授权模式变更事件的应对。这也算是对“XFree86即将退出主流distro”预言的进一步验证。
